Monday
It's chaos in the wake of Stevie's shooting as the terrified film crew flee from the beach. Alf calls emergency services and Nelson joins his team in taking refuge in the Surf Club, while Stevie lies in Cash's arms.
Cash hears the ambulance siren nearby and tries to keep Stevie talking, but she loses consciousness.
Bree and Levi are on hand at the hospital when Stevie is wheeled in by paramedics. When Remi arrives, he storms the operating room to be with Stevie and begs Bree to promise him that she'll be okay. She complies, but as Levi points out, it's a promise she might not be able to keep.
Meanwhile, at home with the doors locked and the blinds pulled closed, Felicity makes a call to Tane. She warns him to make sure he's nowhere near the club, as there has been a shooting.
As Tane processes this, he looks around to see Stevie's stalker Sidney, who clocks him and takes off. Despite the danger, Tane gives chase. Felicity is terrified as the phone disconnects. He catches up to the shooter, but Sidney is able to get in a hit and leaves Tane flat on his back. Unable to get through to him, Felicity can't help but act and is flooded with relief when she finds him lying on the sand, alive.
Back at the hospital, Bree desperately performs compressions on Stevie as Levi gently warns her that their patient is gone. Levi questions whether she'd still be doing this if she hadn't made a promise to Remi. Bree is adamant that she's not going out there to tell Remi that she failed.
As Remi grows more impatient for news outside, Bree finally calls a time of death and steels herself to deliver the heartbreaking news.
Later, Cash returns home for a change of clothes and receives an unwelcome greeting from Sidney, who levels his rifle straight at him. Is Cash about to meet the same fate as Stevie?
Tuesday
Sidney demands to know that Stevie is dead. Cash confirms that she is, but Sidney is sceptical as no death has been reported. He orders Cash to sit down as he again points the gun at him, before scrolling his phone for news of a fatality.
As Cash tries reasoning with Sidney, Eden arrives home. Cash takes his moment to tackle his distracted captor to the ground. Eden calls the police.
Meanwhile, Rose delivers the sad news to Nelson that Stevie didn't make it. As she prepares to clear the crew to get home to their families, she issues a warning – there's a media blackout and they need to hold off from telling people that Stevie has died until the family has been notified.
When Rose ends a call with Sarge, she suddenly has to leave after learning that Cash has the gunman. When she arrives at his place, she arrests Sidney, who cackles in delight to learn that his victim has in fact died.
Elsewhere, Remi is broken following Stevie's death and Bree is left to console her ex-boyfriend over the loss of his new love. When he sees her being rolled past in a body bag, he can't cope and storms off.
The next day, Bree admits to Rose that she's confused about Remi and Nelson. When she offers her support to Remi again, he's cold – questioning why she cares now that they've broken up.
Cash is irate to learn that a mistrial was declared due to a post on social media. Eden tries to talk Cash down as he grapples with feelings of rage and guilt. Before she can succeed though, a distraught Remi barges in to confront his friend for failing to save his lover's life.
It seems Cash agrees, and Eden sadly reports to Rose the next day that he does in fact blame himself for Stevie's murder. Will Cash and Remi find a way forward in the wake of this tragedy?
Wednesday
Remi continues to oppose Bree's attempts to check up on him, encouraging her to speak to Nelson as he needs her support too. Bree doesn't see any harm in checking in with someone she still cares about, especially when they're going through a tough time.
As they continue to talk, Remi wonders what might have become of him and Stevie. Bree and Remi also reflect on their own relationship, as Remi says that he disagrees with Bree's belief that it was defined by trauma.
As Remi explains why he fell in love with Bree, she gets caught up in the moment and leans in for a kiss. Just as quickly, she leaves – mortified to have made a move on her ex while he's still grieving.
Later, Remi tells Bree that they should probably stay away from each other for a while. Bree agrees it's a good idea, but privately she's in turmoil – is she still in love with her ex?
Meanwhile, when John tries to recruit Dana for a big day on patrol the next day following Stevie's death, she refuses as she has to attend Tane's trial. At Salt, she rehearses her testimony and reckons she knows it backwards by now, but she's still anxious.
On the morning of the trial, John sees Dana dressed up for court in the Diner and accuses her of blowing off patrol for a social event, bringing her to tears. When Marilyn corrects him, he's horrified by his tactlessness. Can he make things right with Dana?
Thursday
Feeling terrible after making his friend cry, John calls Harper to the Diner to bolster her sister, where she and Rose both reassure Dana over the case. On the stand, Dana's fears are realised when the prosecution quickly trips her up with their aggressive line of questioning.
When it's Harper's turn, she makes a bold move by claiming that she has no recollection in response to every question. The judge soon threatens to hold her in contempt of court.
When Marshall is slipped a note, he suddenly requests an adjournment. It turns out that Sonia, the baby's mother, has changed her mind about testifying and she was their star witness.
Before court resumes, Felicity confides in Marshall about the end of her marriage to Tane, and he's struck by an idea. When they return to court, he calls Tane to the stand, something he'd previously said wasn't advisable. He's honest when he whispers to his client that they don't have any more options.
Meanwhile, Alf has been enraged by "fans" of Stevie Marlow selling knock-off t-shirts on the beach and crowding her memorial shrine to take tasteless selfies. He tells Mali and Kirby that he wants the community to get back to normal – which includes Mali taking his surf lessons.
After Rose has testified at court, Alf takes her to see for herself. She confronts the t-shirt seller and demands to see a permit, also querying their right to use Stevie's likeness on their merch.
Later, Mali explains to Kirby why he won't be taking lessons for a while. He won't set foot on the beach for fear of disturbing Stevie's spirit, not until the community has been able to say goodbye.
When Kirby asks, Mali explains that usually they'd get an elder in to perform a smoking ceremony to help the spirit move on. Kirby thinks they should arrange this. When Alf gets a permit to move Stevie's shrine from the beach, Mali explains his reluctance to help and Alf is more than understanding.
Friday
Tane has taken the stand in his own defence and Marshall begins with a hard line of questioning, focusing on the breakdown of his marriage to Felicity. When a flustered Tane confirms that he was heartbroken because he dreams of becoming a father, Marshall says he has no further questions.
Both Tane and Felicity are furious that their marriage breakdown has now been dragged before the courts, but Marshall insists he was left with no other option.
Later, Felicity tells her ex that she agrees with the defence – if it means he walks free, that means more to her than keeping their secrets.
Next, Harper comes down with a bottle of liquor to check on Tane. He thanks her for what she did in court. It's a charged moment between them and soon Tane pulls her into a passionate kiss.
The next morning, they wake up together on the floor of the gym to the news that Tane has been called in for sentencing. He goes before the judge and is relieved when she confirms he will receive a suspended sentence – he can serve his time in the community.
Everyone's in the mood to celebrate, but before Tane can talk to Harper, Marshall rushes him away. For her part, Harper seems troubled – does Tane feel the same way she does about their night together?
Meanwhile, Mali's trying to arrange the smoking ceremony to release Stevie's spirit, but between him and his mum, they're struggling to find an elder who's available. Off the back of a call with home, Mali reckons he's found a compromise. He can't do a full smoking ceremony because he's not an elder, but he thinks it could still help.
On the beach, Alf, Justin, Theo, and Kirby join Mali for the ceremony. Afterwards, Alf watches as the four of them paddle out into the water on their boards in honour of Stevie's memory.
